The Victims Resource Center began in 1974 as a grassroots organization called the Luzerne County Women Organized Against Rape. The organization was formed as a response to the nationwide rape crisis movement to serve as a support and resource center for women who were victims of crime, particularly rape. The organization provided many of the services still offered nearly 30 years later, including a 24-hour hotline, accompaniment to police interviews, hospital emergency room and court proceedings, a referral service for medical and additional counseling services, and educational presentations and written materials for professionals and the general public.

We place a high value on individuality, equality and the right of each person to be treated with dignity. We believe that everyone has a right to live free from oppression and violence.

We believe that everyone has the right and responsibility to make decisions regarding his/her own life, and we support a healthy environment that nurtures that ability in each person.

We believe in a society that cares for people in ways that encourages them to be productive and caring toward others, free from interference by those wishing to coerce a particular lifestyle, and free from the fear that they are in danger of having their lives violated by others.

Our purpose involves advocacy, education and services to help victims. Click here for our complete purpose
