On September 9, 2006, the Victims Resource Center suffered the tragic and sudden loss of a friend, volunteer and the husband of our Direct Service staff member Hazel Johnson.

DJ Johnson worked as a consultant in our Education Department presenting a variety of programs in Carbon and Luzerne Counties. DJ especially loved working with children. With his puppet friend Safety Sam, DJ presented Child Safety Programs to children in preschool through second grade. Child Safety Programs create awareness of all forms of abuse and focus on the concepts of good touch/bad touch and who to go to for help.

The DJ Johnson Memorial Fund was established to endow financial support to the Victims Resource Centers' Child Safety Programs in Carbon, Luzerne and Wyoming Counties. Additionally a yearly fundraiser will contribute additional growth and income to the fund.
